New Year’s Resolutions For Puppies

Happy New Year! Has a new puppy recently joined your household? If so, we suspect your little canine buddy provided you with some adorable moments over the holidays. That first year is a crucial time in little Fido’s life. Your cute pet has some pretty tall goals in store for 2020! Read on as a Bee Cave, TX vet lists some resolutions for young dogs.

Make Friends With The Cat

Little Fido has a tough challenge ahead of him with this one! Fluffy may still be giving her new canine roommate the side-eye well into the new year. Supervise interactions between your pets, and separate them if necessary.

Pick A Favorite Toy

Your furry friend will be very interested in sorting out what he can and can’t eat, chew, or play with. Offer your pup lots of fun toys to play with. You’ll also need to make your home safe for the little guy by doing some puppyproofing. Remove or secure things like toxic plants, plastic bags and ties, wires and cords, chemicals, medication, and anything small or sharp.

Charm My Vet

Your four-legged friend will need to come in a few times this year. Little Fido will need his initial exams and vaccinations, as well as microchipping, spay/neuter surgery, and parasite control. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.

Make Friends

Socialization is very important for young dogs, and is crucial to your pet’s emotional and mental development. To socialize little Fido, you’ll want to introduce the little guy to lots of friendly faces. It’s also important for him to visit different places and interact with other dogs. Host some puppy play dates with friendly pooches, and have friends and family members come by to pet him, play with him, and offer treats.

Explore!

Dogs are very adventurous, and they love going to new places. This is actually great for socialization. Take your furry pal to some new parks or trails this year!

Learn To Be A Good Boy

Education is definitely on the agenda for your furry buddy! In addition to housebreaking and crate training, little Fido should learn basic obedience commands, like Sit, Stay, Come, and Lay Down.
