5 Great Ways to Conceal Litterboxes

Litterboxes aren’t the best part of having kitties. They’re convenient, of course, and are one reason that Fluffy is such an easy keeper, but they definitely don’t do much for your décor. Read on for some great tips from a Bee Cave, TX vet on hiding Fluffy’s purrsonal powder room.

Folding Screens

Folding screens are a purrfect way to conceal a litterbox. This is a great option for people who live in apartments, as they can double as attractive decorations. Put one in a corner, and leave just enough room for your feline friend to get in and out. You may want to hang thick plastic sheets on the back of the screen to protect it.

Upcycled Furniture

There are many clever ways to turn an old buffet, bureau, end table, or coffee table into a litterbox holder. Opt for pieces with doors. Make a hole in the back or side for your cat, and then use the doors for cleaning access. You can also put a plant on top, which will both purify the air and make your place look nice. Check the ASPCA site here for a full list of pet-safe plants. Some good options are Boston ferns, Spider plants, and Ponytail palms.

Decorative Tote

Totes may not be the fanciest option here, but they’re both cheap and versatile. They’re also easy to clean, and can be replaced as needed. All you really have to do is cut a kitty door for Fluffy. However, if you want to make the tote look a bit nicer, you can dress it up with paint, contact paper, or stencils.

Custom Pieces

It’s probably safe to say that a lot of people with cats would love to not have to look at their pets’ bathrooms. Some furniture manufacturers are now making things that are specifically designed to hide litterboxes. These may be more expensive than the other options, but they are also both attractive and functional. They should also last a long time.

Draped Fabric

Another option is to slide the tote or litterbox under an end table with legs, and then drape some attractive fabric over it. Just make sure Fluffy has enough room to get in and out.
