Cat Health Month

Did you know that February is Cat Health Month? While keeping your feline friend healthy is important all year, this is a great time to take a look at your kitty’s care regimen, and perhaps see if anything needs improvement. Read on as a Bee Cave, TX vet discusses some key aspects of keeping your cat healthy.

Good Food

Good nutrition is a cornerstone of a good cat-care routine. Offer Fluffy a high-quality, nourishing food, but don’t go overboard with fatty treats. You don’t want your kitty becoming obese! Ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Veterinary Care

Regular exams are just as important for kitties as they are for people. Although Fluffy may not be thrilled about the car ride over to see us, she will definitely benefit from regular veterinary care. It’s also important for cats to be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and kept up to date on vaccinations and parasite control products.

Kitty Safety

Cats have a reputation for being mischievous, and with good reason. Fluffy does have a habit of getting herself into trouble! Make your home safe for your furball by doing some basic petproofing. Remove or secure anything that could be dangerous. This includes toxic plants; wires and cords; plastic bags and wrappers; chemicals; medicine; and any small or sharp objects.

Keep Fluffy Indoors

One of the best things that you can do for your pet’s health is to keep her safe and sound outdoors. Although Fluffy may think of herself as fierce and formidable, she is actually very vulnerable, and can easily be hurt. Cars, predators, weathers, chemicals, and other kitties are just a few of the dangers cats face outdoors. Kitties that are allowed to wander are also more likely to get lost, hurt, or even killed.

Purr Activation

Just like people, cats can suffer from stress and unhappiness. To keep your furball content, you’ll need to provide her with some simple kitty luxuries. Toys, comfy beds, nontoxic plants, pet furniture, and a good window view will all help keep your feline pal entertained, and prevent her from feeling bored and restless. It’s also important to pay lots of attention to Fluffy. Pet her, play with her, and talk to her, so she feels loved, safe, and happy.
